Posting with the New Gutenberg WordPress Editor

So this is New Gutenberg WordPress Editor? It’s pretty straightforward. I am typing this in a default block. Anyone who has use visual editors from other themes such as Elementor and Fusion Builder would understand the idea behind this. This is a step in the right direction I think. I am pretty tired of having to use a different editor for each theme and having to navigate around the WYSIWG GUI for each of them.

New block. Nice. Now I can reorder these blocks if I wish. Very intuitive.

Don’t get me wrong. . . oh look a new block is created automatically. Interesting. Don’t get me wrong, I love WPbakery and Fusion Builder but they can be complicated and sometimes a little buggy, for simple things like blog post entries like this.

New block. Nice. Now I can reorder these blocks if I wish. Very intuitive. and duplicating them are cool.

Inserting photos in New Gutenberg WordPress Editor

I can insert photos and other interesting stuff. Let’s see let me insert a photo below this block and see how it looks.

Artist Chris Foss in his studio. Adding captions are easy.

The above image comes from a post in my #artistsyoushouldknow series. Check it out here. So linking back to my own posts used to be easy, that seems to have been removed. Sucks. So what you do is type in the title of your post and it comes up pretty quickly. 🤔

Resizing image blocks and setting them is very visual and intuitive. I can resize on the fly and set wrapping. Not as powerful as doing wrapping in page layout apps, but still better than what we had before. Let’s add something else below. What do we have next?

Cool. Adding a gallery is very simple. Adding hot links and re-ordering the photos is quite seamless.

Embedding Video in the New Gutenberg WordPress Editor

What else we got?

Please check out my Youtube channel.

And we can add lyrics to songs using the “Verse” blocktype. Nice.

I have climbed the highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you
I have run I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in the fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire
I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for. . .

So now I don’t need to muck around with a lot of plugins to embed media. I hope that moving forward the plugin people start adding some of the seamless functionality that Gutenberg is bringing. The heart of WordPress is the plugins but they are definitely a drag on site resources and sometimes just stop working. The more WordPress internalise common functions the better off wordpress devs and users are.

So that was a little experience with the New Gutenberg WordPress Editor oh I need to add some sub heads. Let me try that. I like this move. It was a little worrying that it might break my site, but so far having hasn’t had any impacts on the sites I have now. I will keep working with it and see how it goes.
